FASHION FOR CHRIST

“Your Truth never goes out of fashion.

- Psalm 119:90 -

ABOUT

Fashion For Christ (FFC) exists to pray with and for people who work or study in fashion, and to support others in an industry where they may feel alone, giving them the opportunity to meet and network with other Christians in the industry. We meet monthly (except August) to connect through worship, to hear a talk/interview and to pray. If you work in fashion, press the icon on the left to join us.

Our members are made up of Holy Trinity Brompton members and many other churches across and around London. We partner closely with gMODA (formerly Models For Christ) which started in New York City over 33 years ago who have a global reach in 10 cities, and together we support people in all the major fashion capitals across the world. The FFC leadership team is made up of people who have extensive experience within the fashion industry.

By praying intentionally and persistently for 10 years, our established prayer group now blesses many, and for that we are ever thankful. The scripture for FFC is taken from Psalm 119:90 The Message Bible “Your Truth never goes out of fashion.

OUR STORY

In 2007 I was asked to speak at a faith industry sector prayer breakfast at my church, Holy Trinity Brompton (HTB). It was such an honour to speak about how God was working in my life and talk about the industry I loved. From this I was asked if I would form a prayer group for the fashion industry which I did, and over the following years I would spend many a weekend working on this, giving it my all. Every business trip I went on overseas I would research churches and who I could meet that was a Christian working in fashion in that city. It was through this networking that I remembered a ministry I had heard about years ago – Models for Christ (MFC). I contacted them and a relationship which has blossomed into a partnership was born. I could see God’s hand on the group and although we were few at the beginning I prayed to God that He would bring Christians in fashion out of the shadows and He did, time and time again.

It was a few years into the fashion prayer group when I finally asked for wisdom from God, since we had many members that did not attend my church and a few that lived overseas. I felt it was time to name the group and for six months I thought of many names. One day, when I was sitting quietly and listening to what God had to say, He gently whispered “Fashion For Christ”. After He gave me the name I was reading Psalm 119 in The Message Bible and verse 90 jumped off the page, “Your Truth never goes out of fashion. This has now become the scripture over FFC. 2017 marked our tenth anniversary, how something that started as a very brief talk about fashion on a cold morning in a prayer meeting at HTB has now become a ministry that encourages and blesses many that work or study in the fashion industry. Who would have thought God was that interested in fashion - a seed has now become an oak tree.

Over the years that FFC grew, I accepted every opportunity to speak about it. I was asked to speak at a London Synod about fashion and what God was doing in the industry, as the diocese in London were interested in the creative industries. I deliberately sat at the back on the evening of the meeting and wore my highest heels so that when I was asked to come forward to share I would make an entrance. I had selected with care an outfit that included several pieces of fur - I wanted to give them the full treatment of someone from fashion. It was Cruella De Vil from 101 Dalmatians meets the Bishop! I spoke about the wonderful blessings and encounters we had witnessed as we prayed every London Fashion Week and in our meetings, and how we encouraged our members, but also that fashion is an incredible bridge to reach young people. After a wonderful evening, I surrendered it to God that He would bless that opportunity accordingly.

The more FFC grew the more battles I and the Leadership Team encountered. We faced opposition and at times I was told, "was there any point in continuing". I still had a real peace and sense that it was, so I pushed through with the encouragement of fellow leaders from MFC. You have to be prepared that the bigger the blessing, the bigger the battle. Starting and leading any ministry is going to be challenged, and many times you will feel like giving in. Don’t. Rise above it and God will cover you. gMODA (formerly MFC) has now been going for over thirty years, FFC ten, and I hope and pray we will all be standing strong for many years to come, passing the baton to new leaders who can take what we have done and improve on it. Any ministry or prayer group is not to be held onto but released so it can go from strength to strength. I look with great pride and joy at the leaders of FFC - they are incredible, amazing anointed men and women of God who will forever be in my prayers. It is for His glory, not mine. Fashion For Christ - the best is yet to come!
